PRESIDENTS REPORT
Marquette County Lakes Association held their spring joint lakes meeting on 6-9-22. In attendance were 4 board members, 11 lake members of which 4 were from Harris Pond, Pat Kilby, Kendra Kundinger AIS Coordinator, and 2 speakers from Cason & Associates. They stated there are 15 paid lake group members.
Some of the items discussed:
AIS coordinator Kendra Kundinger talk about the program is more educational rather then hands on. Three area lakes have received $500 grants to survey for invasive plant.
Pat Kilby talked about the state has set aside $ 25,000 for testing private wells for nutrients.
There will be an electronic disposal day at the Montello Highway building on Sept 10 2022.
Cason & Associates, Lance and Brandon talked about how they are helping lakes with issues.
They talked about helping in the grant application and grant writing process. They charge $125 an hour for that service and have a 50 percent success rate.
They are also working on shore line reconstruction projects.
They answered a question as far as Duck Weed and said there is nothing presently effective to eliminate it. They did say they are working with aeration to try to break it up.
VICE PRESIDENTS REPORT
Joe Helmin talked about the retiring president and his 15 years on the board. He presented Kent with a personalized HPLA coffee cup, and a very generous gift certificate. Kent was very appreciative and said he will use both.
Joe talked about the Lake Association’s future identity, he also talked about the Chateau Tavern, Mike’s Sportsmen’s Tavern and the School House Tavern and thanked them for the amount of raffle tickets they sold.
Joe talked about next year’s annual meeting and the consensus was no picnic, keep the meeting at the Lange Park Pavilion and the meeting should be held on July 8, 2023. @ 12:30 PM, the raffle drawing will be at 1:30 PM. The new raffle tickets will reflect the changes.
Phyllis Ingram mentioned some thoughts about the lake association and if we should expand our bylaws so we can do more community activity as is being more and more proposed, or even become part of the Harrisville Sportsmen’s Club. After some discussion it was determined the pond will require some work, and the Lake Association should remain as it is.
OLD BUSINESS
Mike Mittlestedt said he had the cost for the removal of the cherry tree along the shoreline in Lange Park. The amount was $800.00. It was agreed the lake association would pay for that removal.
Joe Helmin stated that because of the hot weather, the plants for the beetle raising are dying. We may not be able to put the beetles out to address the Purple Loosestrife. Joe will talk to Kendra Kundinger to see what can be done.
NEW BUSINESS
Mike Mittelstedt brought up the roof on the pavilion in Lange Park needs replacing. They want to replace that roof with steel. The estimate for the material is $5,000. Phyllis Ingram proposed the Lake Association should pay $2,500 toward replacing that roof, and $2,500 so the murals on the Sportsman’s Building can be completed.
Mike Mittelstedt motioned for $2,500 for each. Pat Kappel seconded. Motion carried
Phyllis Ingram talked about our Christmas Party. The date will be Monday, December 19, 2022, @ Mike’s Sportsman’s Tavern. Phyllis said those who are interested in attending should have their money in by December 1, 2022.
