Joe Helmin, President, called the Board of Directors meeting to order at 1:30 pm at the Lange Park Pavilion.  He welcomed all present.

Quorum Set

REVIEW AND APPROVE THE PRINTED AND POSTED MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 14, 2023, AND MARCH 9, 2024, BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS.

It was motioned by Dave Kappel and seconded by Mike Mittelstedt, “to approve the printed and posted minutes from the October 14, 2023, and March 9, 2024, Board of Directors meetings.”  Motion carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

REVIEW AND APPROVE THE LATEST FINANCIAL AND MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITY FROM OCTOBER, 2023, THROUGH MARCH, 2024.

Sue Tutaj, Secretary/Treasurer, stated we are 11 members strong.

It was motioned by Dave Kappel and seconded by Mike Mittelstedt, “to approve the Treasurer’s report for the months of October, 2023; November, 2023; December, 2023; January, 2024; February, 2024, and March, 2024; as follows:

“The month of October, 2023:  Beginning balance as of October 1, 2023, of $16,814.33; Income of $25.00; Expenses of $95.00; leaving an ending balance as of October 31, 2023, of $16,744.33.

The month of November, 2023:  Beginning balance as of November 1, 2023, of $16,744.33; No Income; No expenses; leaving an ending balance as of November 30, 2023, of $16,744.33.

The month of December, 2023:  Beginning balance as of December 1, 2023, of $16,744.33; Income of $250.00; Expenses of $21.00; Leaving an ending balance as of December 31, 2023, of $16,973.33.

The month of January, 2024:  Beginning balance as of January 1, 2024, of $16,073.33; Income of $50.00; Expenses of $25.00; leaving an ending balance as of January 31, 2024, of $16,998.33.

The month of February, 2024:  Beginning balance as of February 1, 2024, of $16,998.33; No Income and No Expenses; leaving an ending balance as of February 29, 2024, of $16,998.33.

The month of March, 2024:  Beginning balance as of March 1, 2024, of $16,998.33; Income of $290.00; No Expenses; leaving an ending balance of $17,288.33.”

Motion carried.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

NO QUORUM’S WERE ESTABLISHED AT EITHER THE OCTOBER, 2023, OR MARCH 9, 2024, MEETINGS.

Joe explained at our previous meetings of October 14, 2023, and March 9, 2024, we were not able to set our quorum, as a result, we could not vote on anything.  Today, we met our quorum and could vote.

DISCUSS HPLA BOARD OF DIRECTOR VACANCIES.

At our Annual Meeting set for July 6, 2024, we will be voting for the positions of President; Secretary; and possibly two (2) At-Large Board Members.

HPLA MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

The membership renewals are lagging behind from last year.  Joe will contact those members who have not renewed as yet.

HPLA PICNIC TABLES AT THE LANGE PARK PAVILION - MOUNTING DONATION SIGNAGE.

Joe stated he will work on getting the signage mounted to the picnic tables - there are two (2) signs for each table.  

DISCUSS PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM ANDREW SENDERHAUF - NEW AIS COORDINATOR FOR GOLDEN SANDS LLC.

Joe stated Chris Hamerla is no longer our AIS Coordinator; as Andrew Senderhauf, is the new contact person.  Concerning Purple loosestrife, we will not be growing the beetles this year as they effectively reduced the amount of Purple loosestrife on the eastern shoreline from our past efforts.

MARQUETTE COUNTY LAKES ASSOCIATION MEETING ON SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2024, AT THE WESTFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY AND MARQUETTE COUNTY LAKES ASSOCIATION SPRING MEETING ON THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2024, AT THE MARQUETTE COUNTY SERVICE CENTER (MONTELLO)

Joe stated he received an email concerning the Marquette County Lakes Association up- coming meetings.  The meeting on Saturday, April 27, 2024, is their board meeting; and the Spring meeting to be held on June 13, 2024, is for all membership in the Marquette County Lakes Association.

UPDATE ON 4TH OF JULY PARADE PARTICIPATION (JAY INGRAM STATED HIS BOAT AND TRUCK ARE GOOD TO GO)

Joe stated Jay Ingram will graciously lend us his boat and truck to be used in the Harrisville 4th of July parade.  

Joe stated he will be buying the candy to toss during the parade.  It was suggested we look at buying candy locally this year.

2024 HPLA ANNUAL MEETING UPDATES FOR SATURDAY, JULY 6, 2024.

Joe stated our Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, July 6,2024, at the Lange Park Pavilion, weather permitting.  Our meeting will start at 12:30 pm with the raffle drawing to be held following the meeting around 1:30 pm.  

The positions for voting will be President; Secretary; and possibly two (2) At-Large Board Members.  

FUND-RAISING COMMITTEE:

2024 RAFFLE TICKETS:  TICKETS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO THE FOLLOWING ESTABLISHMENTS:  THE CHATEAU; SCHOOLHOUSE TAVERN AND SPORTSMEN’S TAVERN.  SALES OF OUR RAFFLE TICKETS ARE BRISK!

The raffle tickets are sold for $20.00 each with only 300 total to be sold.  The top prize is $1,000.00.  

FACEBOOK ACTIVITY/FOLLOWERS

It was stated there are 422 facebook followers.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

It was the general consensus to NOT hold a meeting on Saturday, May 11, 2024.  Tentatively our next meeting will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Lange Park Pavilion, at 1:30 pm, weather permitting.

It was motioned by Mike Mittelstedt and seconded by Dave Kappel, “to adjourn”.  Motion carried.
